The Best of Both Worlds: On-Premises, Consumption-based IT Services

Your business needs the flexibility and scalability of the cloud, and you'd love to take advantage of the cost savings it offers. But you'd still prefer to have tighter control over the applications and data within your own environment. Now you can have the best of both worlds with HPE GreenLake Flex Capacity. It’s a service from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) that provides on-premises computing hardware and support together with consumption-based pricing.

Everything-as-a-Service (EaaS)

HPE GreenLake Flex Capacity is a concept at the cutting edge of IT. This Everything-as-a-Service (EaaS) model combines the advantages of the cloud with the security and control of an on-premises IT system. The result is more cost effective, reliable network performance. You pay only for the resources you use – gigabytes of storage, compute hours, or megabytes of network traffic – while maintaining hands-on access to systems managed to your standards for compliance and security. The idea is to start small, and only pay more when your business scales up to the point that you need additional capacity. That's how you can achieve 100% asset utilization at minimal cost.

HPE GreenLake Implementation

Getting started with HPE GreenLake is easy. Experts from Pointnext, the services organization within HPE, and your IIS Solutions Engineer work with your IT staff to design a solution optimized for your specific workloads. Together the team will choose from a wide range of HPE and partner technologies including big data, edge computing, hybrid IT, converged infrastructure, backup and recovery, SAP HANA, VMWare and others you need on-site to meet your business objectives and SLAs.

Once your hardware and software has been selected, it is installed on-premises (along with some buffer capacity to handle demand spikes, new application roll-outs, or on-boarding new clients, for example) by HPE Pointnext. Then together with IIS and HPE, you'll design a contract to pay for only the capacity that you use; like leasing a car. The capacity measurements will depend on your environment but are likely to encompass storage, compute hours, and network bandwidth consumed. The contract will include a minimum commitment level which is the least amount your organization agrees to pay each month. To be sure, that amount will be pennies on the dollar for what it would take to build, maintain and staff an internal self-standing data center. Another plus: HPE retains ownership of the on-premises equipment, and is responsible for all security, latency, data sovereignty, compliance and governance – relieving your staff of those responsibilities as well.
